At Poetry on Drums, Tabla students learn not only rhythms and grooves but an entire language through which they can express their individuality in any style of music they choose.

Of all the world's drumming traditions, Tabla stands out for the remarkable poetic aspect of its music.  Many Tabla compositions have rhyme, punctuation, and stressed and non-stressed syllables like many forms of classical poetry; other compositions more closely resemble modern free-verse poetry with its spontaneous and unpredictable structures and patterns.  Head Instructor Chaz Hastings teaches traditional compositions (many of which are hundreds of years old) using creative and modern teaching techniques while never forgetting to emphasize what makes Tabla unique from other drums.  Chaz believes that anyone can be a Tabla player if they wish to be one.  Through Poetry on Drums, Chaz is committed to producing world class musicians, educated music listeners, and the future patrons of Indian Classical music.
